Some urologists operate. Others operate, publish, teach, and train the next generation of physicians. Prof. Basri Çakıroğlu firmly belongs to the second category. Born in Samsun in 1969, he has built over thirty years a career that spans high-level clinical practice, scientific research published in internationally indexed journals, and university teaching.
Prof. Çakıroğlu obtained his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at Ondokuz Mayıs University in Samsun in 1994. After two years as a physician at public health centers in Samsun (Ayvacık and Çarşamba), he began his urology residency at Taksim Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul, completing it in 2002. From 2002 to 2003, he remained there as a urology specialist before joining Şebinkarahisar State Hospital in Giresun Province, where he served as both urologist and chief physician until 2005.
In 2005, he joined Hisar Intercontinental Hospital in Istanbul, one of the city's most internationally accredited private institutions. He took over as supervisor of the urology clinic, a position he has held ever since. Between 2016 and 2017, he simultaneously provided theoretical and practical training courses for urology residents at Gaziosmanpaşa Taksim Training and Research Hospital.
On January 22, 2020, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor of Urology. He subsequently taught at Atlas University and Istanbul Galata University before joining the Faculty of Medicine at Üsküdar University in 2023 as an academic staff member. On June 12, 2025, he was appointed Full Professor in the Department of Urology, the culmination of more than twenty years of academic commitment.
His areas of specialization cover endourology, pediatric urology, urooncology, andrology, and male infertility. He is recognized for his command of minimally invasive surgical techniques, including laparoscopic urological surgery and prostate and bladder cancer surgery. He has performed more than 900 urological procedures, with a particular focus on approaches that allow for rapid recovery and optimal postoperative comfort.
Prof. Çakıroğlu has authored more than 30 scientific articles published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, several of which are indexed in SCI and SCI-E. He is an active speaker and participant at international urology congresses, symposia, and academic panels. He is listed in the Frontiers in Medicine database as a researcher affiliated with Hisar Intercontinental Hospital.
His publications include studies on holmium laser lithotripsy via flexible ureteroscopy, the efficacy of varicocelectomy on sperm parameters, the applicability of virtual reality simulators in urological surgery, testicular epidermoid cysts, and myxolipoma of the renal capsule, published in journals including the African Journal of Paediatric Surgery, the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports, and Urology Annals.
He is a member of the Turkish Association of Urology, the European Association of Urology (EAU), the Society of Endourology, the Eurasian Society of Urooncology, and the Association of Andrology. He is proficient in English at an advanced level and is available for online consultations.
