ASSOC. PROF. BURÇİN BATMAN – Bariatric surgery

About

Dr. Burçin Batman is an Associate Professor in general surgery, specializing in obesity and metabolic surgery. Having performed over 1,000 bariatric procedures in six years, he has established himself as one of Turkey's most experienced practitioners in this field. He currently practices at Hisar Intercontinental Hospital in Istanbul.

Training

Dr. Batman obtained his medical degree from Fırat University Faculty of Medicine. He then completed his specialization in general surgery at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine (Çapa), one of Turkey's leading academic institutions for surgical training. Upon completing his residency, he fulfilled his compulsory medical service at Muş Bulanık State Hospital.

Advanced International Training

As part of his professional development, he completed two high-level training programs abroad. The first in robotic surgery at IRCAD (Research Institute against Digestive Cancer) in Strasbourg, France, the world's most recognized training center for minimally invasive surgery. The second in Intraoperative Radiotherapy (IORT) at the Royal Free Hospital Target Academy in London, as part of the International Training Course on Targeted Intraoperative Radiotherapy.

Clinical and Academic Career

Following his compulsory service, he joined LIV Hospital Ulus in Istanbul, where he developed his expertise in bariatric and metabolic surgery. In 2016, he became one of the founding faculty members of the Department of General Surgery at the newly established İstinye University Faculty of Medicine, where he taught theoretical and practical courses to medical students until 2020, the year in which he earned the title of Associate Professor. Since 2020, he has been practicing in a private setting with an activity exclusively dedicated to obesity and metabolic surgery.

Surgical Areas of Expertise

His practice covers obesity and metabolic surgery (sleeve gastrectomy, endoscopic gastric balloon placement, metabolic surgeries), colorectal surgery, endocrine surgery, laparoscopic inguinal and umbilical hernia repair, and anal region disorders (laser hemorrhoid treatment, Doppler-assisted hemorrhoidopexy).

Memberships and Affiliations

Dr. Batman is a member of the Turkish Surgery Association, the Turkish Obesity Surgery Society, the World Obesity Association, the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO), the Society of Endocrine Surgery, and the National Society for Endoscopic Laparoscopic Surgery. He holds IFSO accreditation, an internationally recognized certification for bariatric surgeons.
