The correction of visual defects through an excimer laser is a surgical technique that leads to the visual improvements of the eyes.
The laser works by permanently modeling the corneal curvature and correcting the visual defect. The mechanism of action consists in vaporizing the corneal tissue. The wavelength of the excimer laser is able to prevent the laser from penetrating inside the eye. Therefore, there is no risk of altering or damaging intraocular structures.
Who is this procedure for?
- Healthy people with stable visual acuity for one year
- Patients with myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism
- Patients wishing to get rid of glasses and contact lenses
- Dry eye
- Visual blurs
- Corneal ectasia
Intervention or treatment's duration
- About 15 minutes for both eyes
- Back to daily activities the day after the operation
- Removal of glasses or contact lenses immediately after the operation
- Full recovery after one month
What is the Femto-LASIK?
The Femto-LASIK, that is performed using the femtosecond laser, is currently the most advanced and the safest surgical technique for the correction of optical defects like myopia, astigmatism, hypermetropia, and presbyopia. It is the most common intervention in Turkey and Istanbul and it is essential to correct the refractive defects. The advantages of this technique are the rapid visual recovery and the absence of pain during the postoperative course.
The surgical procedure involves the creation of a corneal flap through the Femtolaser, which is employed to treat the visual defect in the deepest layers of the cornea with the excimer laser.
After the treatment, the flap is repositioned in the initial location where it naturally adheres in a few seconds as if it were a natural contact lens.
On one hand, with the traditional LASIK technique, visual correction can be performed through a mechanical blade (microkeratome) to create the corneal flap. On the other hand, the Femto-LASIK method does not involve any cutting as the corneal flap is created using the femtosecond laser. As a result, this makes the entire procedure completely without cutting and allows the surgeon to organize the Femtolaser according to the different and unique characteristics of each patient, with maximum precision and with a minimum thickness, allowing the eye to maintain even more corneal tissues. The technique allows the best eye doctors to calculate and accurately predict the results with significant reduction of the risk of error.
Risks and contraindications of Femto-LASIK
Although Femto-LASIK is today the most sophisticated and the most reliable technique that is able to correct the optical defects, it is not possible to guarantee a perfect result or an intervention without complications. During the preoperative examination, the eye surgeon evaluates the situation of each patient and informs him/her about any possible risks or additional limits.
Femto-LASIK is not recommended in case of eye diseases such as keratoconus, corneal degenerations, glaucoma, cataract, and proliferative diabetic retinopathy. If you are under 18 years old, you should not have this kind of intervention since your eyes are still evolving.
What is Presbyond Laser?
The presbyond is a new method that is based on the use of lasers in order to correct vision defects. Besides, it allows our refractive surgeons to immediately expand the range of LASIK interventions and thus improve the ability to perform the surgery. Most patients who undergo this surgery are able to read from day one.
The suitability of the laser surgery must be ascertained by an experienced doctor who is able to determine the best solution with a thorough and targeted examination.
The treatment with PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision allows to obtain a clear vision at all distances. PRESBYOND Laser Blended Vision is an effective tool in the treatment of a wide range of vision problems such as:
Before the intervention, you should:
Stop using contact lenses for the four weeks prior to surgery.
not wear makeup in the periocular region for three days.
Use eye drops which are prescribed by your eye surgeon.
