Prostate surgery in Turkey, Best urologists & Prices

The prostate is a small gland, about the size of a walnut, that is part of the male reproductive system. Located below the bladder and surrounding the urethra, it plays a crucial role in the production and storage of seminal fluid, an essential component of sperm.

With age, the prostate can become susceptible to various changes and pathologies, including cancer. If left untreated, these problems can adversely affect quality of life. In some cases, surgery is the most effective solution.

Prostate surgery: When should it be considered?

Prostate surgery is an operation to correct problems with the prostate gland. It is generally considered for the treatment of two major problems:

  • Prostate adenoma: a benign enlargement of the prostate gland that manifests as troublesome urinary problems that persist despite medication, bladder stones, recurrent hematuria, recurrent urinary tract infections, or kidney failure.
  • Prostate cancer: If tests confirm the presence of cancerous cells, removal of the prostate is necessary, sometimes with resection of surrounding tissues such as the seminal vesicles.

Types of prostate surgery

Prostate surgery is a procedure to remove all or part of the prostate gland. It helps relieve certain problems and prevent others, including prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia.

There are several types of prostate surgery, each with its own advantages and disadvantages:

Radical prostatectomy

Radical prostatectomy is the complete removal of the prostate. It is done to treat prostate cancer and prevent it from spreading to other organs.

Depending on the type of surgical incision and the type of tumor, different prostatectomy techniques are used:

  • Retropubic prostatectomy: Access through an incision in the lower abdomen.
  • Laparoscopic prostatectomy: Access through small incisions using a camera and miniaturized surgical instruments.
  • Robotic-assisted prostatectomy: Similar to laparoscopy, but a robot controls the surgical instruments.

Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP)

Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) uses an endoscope inserted through the urethra to remove part of the prostate. It is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH),a common condition that causes an enlarged prostate and urinary problems.

Laser TURP

Laser TURP uses a high-energy laser delivered through an endoscope to destroy or reduce the incision in the prostate. It is a treatment option for BPH.

Cryosurgery

This technique uses gel to freeze and destroy the prostate. It is used to treat BPH.

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) Therapy

HIFU therapy uses high-energy sound waves to target and destroy prostate tissue. It is an option for BPH and early prostate cancer.

Choice of the right prostate surgery

The decision to undergo prostate surgery should be made in consultation with a urologist. The doctor will discuss the various options available with you, taking into account your needs and state of health.

Don't hesitate to ask your urologist any questions you may have, to ensure you make an informed decision about your health.

Adverse effects of surgery

Following prostate surgery, several side effects can appear. They can be minor, but also disabling in some cases. Some side effects can be common to all surgeries, for example:

  • Hematoma
  • Pain in the operated part
  • Infection
  • Vein thrombosis
  • Fatigue

However, others are directly related to prostatectomy or endoscopic resection of the prostate; for example :

  • Urinary incontinence
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Definitive inability to ejaculate in case of total prostatectomy
