Chin reduction: what is it and what are the results?
Chin reduction is an operation that is performed to reduce the size of the chin. The aim behind performing this kind of intervention is to give a more harmonious aspect to the proportions of the face with extremely natural and satisfactory results.
The surgery involves the use of specific tools and different surgical practices to obtain a more symmetrical and coherent profile. In addition, to obtain an even more homogeneous outcome, chin reduction can be performed in combination with the liposuction to remove the adipose tissue that is present under the chin.
In some cases, it is possible that the surgeon will proceed directly with the removal of the localized fat in the chin. As each patient has different characteristics, it is advisable to make an appointment with the best specialists in Turkey and Istanbul who will be able to recommend the right technique that should be performed to attain the result you want.
How is the operation carried out in Istanbul?
Chin reduction can be performed through different techniques. The surgeons will make an incision either under the chin or the gingiva. They will proceed with the reduction of the bone with a bur, decreasing the protruding chin. Depending on the degree of prognathism or the protruding chin, the duration of the reduction procedure is variable. In general, the operation lasts 20 minutes on average. However, in cases of particularly protruding chin, the duration of the chin reduction can be up to 4 hours.
However, the sliding genioplasty remains very similar to the technique used to increase the chin. In fact, the surgery is performed directly on the bone segment which is moved back. In the case of chin augmentation, the bone will be moved forward.
Regarding the duration of the intervention, it may range between an hour and four hours. In both cases, the operation is performed under general anesthesia with the aim of excluding the possibility that the patient will feel any discomfort. At the end of the operation, the surgeon will close the incisions with the stitches.
Double chin treatment without surgery
Eliminating the double chin without a scalpel is possible thanks to cryolipolysis which is a non-surgical and non-invasive aesthetic medical treatment that can be very effective if the double chin is caused by the excessive presence of adipose tissue.
Cryolipolysis consists in using lower temperature until the fat tissue is frozen. Fat cells are destroyed by the cooling and naturally removed by the body through normal physiological processes.
Are there any contraindications?
Chin reduction is a rather safe practice in Turkey and Istanbul which does not cause complications or side effects. However, in order to perform the operation, it is necessary for the surgeon to study the patient’s medical history in order to ensure that there are no pre-existing bone disorders or diseases.
In fact, complications can arise in patients at greater risk. In these cases, infections, blood clots, excessive swelling, loss of sensitivity, and bruising may occur.
There are some medications that can relieve symptoms during convalescence. In this case, the surgeon will make the necessary arrangements.
How much does it cost in Turkey and Istanbul?
Chin reduction is cosmetic surgery with variable costs as it depends on the technique used, the chin prominence, and any associated interventions.
Moreover, if the prognathism is caused by an abnormal growth of the entire jaw, it is necessary to intervene in collaboration with experienced dentists and the operation will be invasive and the costs will increase considerably.
This is possible if you are not satisfied with the appearance of your chin in general. This procedure is for anyone who complains of having a projected, voluminous or too square chin.
The surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis and the patient can leave the same day as the surgery. It can also be done with a one-night hospitalization.
They are rare and often temporary, such as:
- Infection and bleeding;
- Temporary loss of the chin sensitivity.
