What is the best treatment for stomach cancer in Turkey?

Surgery (total or partial gastrectomy) is the main treatment for gastric cancer in our clinics in Turkey. Chemotherapy before and after surgery is sometimes necessary.

How can you live after a total gastrectomy?

It is possible to live without a stomach with some lifestyle and nutritional changes. Eat small, frequent meals (5 to 6 a day),chew well, focus on protein and easy-to-digest foods, and avoid alcohol, tobacco and foods that are very fatty, sugary or hard to digest. Lifelong supplementation is needed, especially vitamin B12 (usually by injection),and often iron, calcium and vitamin D. Dumping syndrome (cramps, diarrhea, sweating and dizziness after meals) is common and is managed by eating slowly, splitting meals, limiting sugar and separating liquids from solids. Regular follow-up with a dietitian and your medical team helps prevent malnutrition and weight loss.
