The calves are a part of a woman's body that should not be underestimated, as a thin calf helps to slim the leg.
Physical activity is always the best ally of health and fitness, however, when you want to slim your calves, you have to be very careful about the choice of exercises.
The most recommended exercises to shape and reduce this area are sports that stretch the muscles, so swimming, pilates, and stretching. However, sport and nutrition are not always enough to get rid of the most stubborn fatty deposits, and this is where certain medical and cosmetic surgery techniques are most useful.

What is Calf reduction?
A calf that is too thick with an ill-defined ankle can be reshaped, made smaller, and therefore more harmonious by liposculpture. This technique, generally performed under local anesthesia, differs from liposuction by the particular care and delicacy with which it is performed: manual aspiration must be constantly mastered to sculpt the profile down to the smallest detail.
Calf reduction is a medical-surgical technique aimed at improving the shape and volume of the calves, by slimming the leg. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and does not affect limb motility.
Why is this done?
This procedure, which acts on the musculature, was created to offer a surgical solution to patients (it is particularly requested by women) who want a slimmer shape of the calves. Sometimes it is combined with other techniques, such as liposuction.
One of the frequent faults in women is precisely that of having the calves a little too big and perhaps what is called "columnar legs". The reasons can be varied and range from a person's genetic confirmation to being overweight linked to family habits, so large calves can be attributed as much to poor diet as to excessive physical activity.
If the shape of the calves does not depend on their genetic and hereditary nature, their imperfections can however be opposed to a healthy lifestyle, which includes a minimum of physical training and a balanced diet.
What is it about?
Possible techniques used include muscle reduction by:
- Infiltration of botulinum toxin
- Resection of the motor nerves of the gastrocnemius muscle
- Direct modification of the gastrocnemius muscle
Reduce calves with botulinum toxin in Istanbul Clinics
Among the different calf reduction techniques, there is one that stands out for its originality compared to many others. These are botulinum toxin infiltrations, used to correct muscle hypertrophy in different areas of the body, including the calves. Botulinum toxin works by weakening the calf muscle through partial peripheral paralysis of the nerve fibers in the injection area, which stretches the skin area and creates a slimming effect on the calves.
The procedure takes approximately 1 hour and is performed without the need for anesthesia, hospitalization, or long convalescences. Immediately after the treatment in Istanbul clinics, it is possible to resume normal daily activities and the results will be more and more evident within 15 days. The important thing is to avoid massaging the treated area for at least 4 hours and to avoid any physical activity for a week.
Botulinum injections to reduce the calves do not have significant side effects, at least you may feel some discomfort walking during the 24 hours following the treatment.
The big advantage is that compared to the surgical technique, there are no scars or long postoperative recovery periods here. The downside is that the result is not permanent, but you will need to repeat the injections every 8–12 months to maintain the effect.
